Sugar cane for processing ethanol on a 400 hectares of land.

The first ever extra-large sugar cane farming for producing ethanol as an alternative fuel to expensive gasoline has been hatched in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region.

Investors in the project have registered Sekab Bio-energy Tanzania (SEKAB) as company behind the initiative, and would take to large scale irrigated and mechanised farming of sugar cane for processing ethanol on a 400 hectares of land.

Sekab`s experts said over the week-end in Bagamoyo that they are operating similar booming projects in East and Central Africa.

One of the company�s officials Igal Shani said to-date, half of the acquired areas has been planted with sugar cane, and a water reservoir with 10 million litres capacity pumped from Lower Ruvu River has been constructed. read more..
